我が海軍

At a ceremony of a translation conference held in Seattle—I think it was an ATA conference some time after JAT started holding IJET conferences—we were greeted by a US Navy color guard that carried in the US flag. We all rose, and the fellow standing on my right quietly said “リゼ君,わが海軍だよ.” Like me, he had been in the US Navy, although his accomplishments there and elsewhere far exceeded by stretch in the USN. It was Don Gorham (1917-2011).
