News of the great AI transformation arrived by snailmail.

I recently received a lovely envelope by snailmail. It held four lovely pamphlets printed in full color advertising four lovely trade shows that are being held simultaneously at Big Sight (not a spelling error).

Ironically—perhaps the organizers don’t realize the irony?—these shows promote AI technology and the greatly vaunted and (in Japan) greatly delayed DX (digital transformation). I suppose the organizers could be congratulated for not attempting to fax me those notices, an attempt that would have fallen on a deaf and non-existing fax machine, as we haven’t had a fax machine for a long time.

This advertising could have been done online. They also could’ve sent email out. As matter of fact, before this mailing I did see notices of these trade shows online, and they did in fact send email promoting the exhibitions. What type of intelligence is to blame for this waste? Artificial? Super?

I have in the past tried, both by email and phone calls, to have them take my physical address off the snailmailing list, but to no avail.

It appears that the organization running the trade shows simply outsources the task of snailmailing, and they won’t disclose the identity of the company handling that task. Well, we’re in Japan, and everything is outsourced as part of an N-level structure where N is a high enough integer to make things uncontrollable.

Sigh—I will not be snailmailing you that sigh.
