Because increased AI use by translation-brokering agencies is quickly bringing the end to freelance translating work from agencies, I will be uploading no further content regarding survival strategies for freelancers. Creating such content is basically a futile waste of time.
Lost or Deleted from the Website of Japan Association of Translators
As of this writing (January, 2025), the JAT website is—and has been for some time—in disarray, with much content (not just my presentations) gone, probably never to return. Because the JAT website no longer appears to be a good place to entrust content of any lasting value, these presentations have been preserved here.
- Lise's legacy IJET Presentations (7) + (one full Proceedings)
- IJET-5 (Urayasu, JP), -7 (Yokohama, JP), -8 (Sheffield, UK), -9 (Yokohama, JP), -16 (Chicago, US), -19 (Okinawa, JP), and -30 (Cairns, AU; the most relevant one these days, with AI replacing professional translators), warts and all, plus the complete IJET-1 (Hakone, JP) Proceedings.

- Just one could be found, and of course it is gone from the website of JAT (Japan Association of Translators).

- Just a loose fragment, but it tells a story.
The Road Ahead for Translators
There basically is no road ahead for all but a tiny number of freelance Japanese-to-English translators. I have described in the article below why this has come about, but am powerless to "empower" translators to survive. The few who will survive will do it without me; the much larger number of those who won't survive will not be helped by anything I can say. It is basically too late.
