For Surviving TranslatorsGetting from Tier Two to Tier One in Japanese-to-English TranslationPresentation by Lise at IJET-30
Cairns, June 29-30, 2019
by William Lise
With the increasing adoption of AI by tier-one translation-brokering agencies, this presentation, made more than five years ago, has grown in relevance, although I must admit that I didn't at the time expect that the profession would be where it is today.
Like some other presentations, this one is preserved here because it—along with a great amount of other legacy assets—was lost from the website of the Japan Association of Translators.
"Famed J<>E translation pioneer Bill Lise" (click screenshot)? Well, not actually, but this was arguably at a time just a few years ago, when JAT was still willing to look at or listen to reality, before delusions about the continuing future of freelance translating set in, souring the group on reality and leading to what is manifesting itself recently as a diversionary and desperate quest for the appearance of relevance, both for translation as a career and for JAT as an organization. The awakening might come, but when, I wonder.
