Interpreting for US Civil Litigation
In this presentation I provided an overview of interpreting for US civil litigation. Most of my experience with this type of interpreting is for patent infringement cases.
There has been a drastic sea change in deposition interpreting in Japan, one harbinger thereof being the closing of two of the three deposition rooms available in Japan; Osaka stopped hosting depositions a short time ago, leaving only the deposition room in Tokyo, and it appears that much of the deposition interpreting these days is done online. Additionally, it also appears—from the distinct lack of alerts I receive as of the restoration of this presentation on December 30, 2025—that patent litigation itself involving Japanese entities is drastically down.
