{"id":2154,"date":"2026-10-03T00:05:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T15:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kirameki-translation.co.jp\/wordpress\/?p=2154"},"modified":"2026-10-02T22:14:28","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T13:14:28","slug":"a-few-stops-along-the-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kirameki-translation.co.jp\/wordpress\/?p=2154","title":{"rendered":"A few stops along the way"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just a few random events in my life leading up to where I am, with many more-mundane things interspersed therebetween.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Born on Pearl Harbor Day in 1945.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Studied Russian at Defense Language Institute in Monterey, with about 1500 classroom hours (-1967).\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rode in a USN aircraft several months before it was shot down by North Korea in 1969.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experienced a bit of survivor guilt by riding space-available on a US military medical evacuation flight in 1969 (the Vietnam war was raging), on which many of the \u201clegitimate\u201d passengers were on stretchers, some moaning and a few with missing limbs.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Worked for about five years in a fiber optics laboratory (-1975).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Established and ran the Japan branch of a US manufacturer until 1979.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interpreted in countless depositions related to intellectual property litigation in the US.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Japanese-to-English Translated hundreds of patents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Was greatly relieved to barely avoid having to interpret for a teen victim of incestuous sexual abuse after the accused, her father, confessed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interpreted in a prison in Matsuyama for a visit to a convicted murderer.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interpreted the arrest and subsequent 35-plus-days of interrogations of a senior corporate executive (2018).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Translated over 1500 pages of diverse documents from a Japanese police investigation involving a US military person.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it goes on, but lately at a bit slower pace and, I\u2019m happy to say, with a bit less excitement.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just a few random events in my life leading up to where I am, with many more-mundane things interspersed therebetween.
