At a ceremony of a translation conference held in Seattle\u2014I think it was an ATA conference some time after JAT started holding IJET conferences\u2014we were greeted by a US Navy color guard that carried in the US flag. We all rose, and the fellow standing on my right quietly said “\u30ea\u30bc\u541b,\u308f\u304c\u6d77\u8ecd\u3060\u3088.” Like me, he had been in the US Navy, although his accomplishments there and elsewhere far exceeded by stretch in the USN. It was Don Gorham (1917-2011).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
